brutal_is_m // ˈbro͞odəliz(ə)m is an installation of fabrics as art objects. The designs originate from a video based on Le Corbusier’s theory of color, Polychromie Architecturale. byWM uses video mixers as graphic instruments: analog tools that compel creative improvisation. Stills from the video are translated into prints on fabric, an attempt to make the moving image tactile. Each piece is 1/1 and unique. The title serves as a coordinate on the timeline, the exact moment of capture. Although each work stands on its own, they remain inextricably linked to the video and, consequently, to one another. This connection extends to the owners: whoever owns a print shares a lasting relationship with the complete work and with the other owners. This creates a subtle network of connected time, image, and engagement. A bridge between audiovisual art and textile design.
